Dr. Nicholas Palenker worked as an academic assistant with Professor Dr. Christoph G. Paulus, LL.M. (Berkeley), at the Humboldt University of Berlin for more than four years. He taught property law as well as civil procedure law and conducted research in bankruptcy and securities law with a particular focus on distressed debt investments. Nicholas wrote a Ph.D. thesis on loan-to-own strategies for which he participated in various conferences and completed a visiting scholar program at the University of California, Berkeley. The thesis compares German and U.S. restructuring practice and encompasses a proposal for new disclosure requirements in the claims trading market.

Prior to this, Nicholas worked for two renowned law firms as an academic associate in litigation as well as civil and administrative law. He studied at the Humboldt University and graduated with special honors receiving the faculty award for the best core subject in European and international private and commercial law. After participating himself, he coached the Humboldt team for the Willem C. Vis Moot. Within his law degree, Nicholas also interned at the legal department of a medical supply company in Chicago, Illinois. During his law and his Ph.D. studies, he was a fellow of the Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich scholarship program.
