Joao Guilherme Thiesi da Silva

Bio:

João Guilherme Thiesi da Silva is an associate in the corporate reorganization and bankruptcy practice of Pinheiro Neto Advogados (Sao Paulo, Brazil). His practice focuses on the representation of creditors, ad hoc groups of noteholders, investors, and debtors in court-run and out-of-court restructurings, DIP financings, refinancings, and investments in distressed assets. João has been involved in some of the most notable Brazilian restructurings over the last years, including the restructuring of Abril, Azul, Casas Bahia, Gol, Intercement, Light, Novonor, OAS, Odebrecht Engenharia, Ocyan, Oi, Samarco e Schahin. João holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from FGV Law SP (São Paulo, Brazil) and was a Visiting International JD Student at Columbia Law School (New York, USA). He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Columbia Law School, where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. In 2022, João was awarded the Gold Medal in the International Insolvency Institute's Prize in International Insolvency Studies, in recognition for his article “Changes and Convergence of Bankruptcy Law: Recent Experience in Brazil.” Joao worked as an international lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP (New York).
