João Guilherme Thiesi da Silva is an associate in the corporate reorganization and bankruptcy practice of Pinheiro Neto Advogados (Sao Paulo, Brazil). His practice focuses on the representation of debtors, creditors, investors and creditor committees in connection with court-run and out-of-court reorganization, as well as distressed investments and financings. He has been involved in some notable restructurings in Brazil over the past few years, including the judicial reorganization of Oi SA, Odebrecht SA and Abril Comunicações SA, and the pre-packaged reorganization of Odebrecht Engenharia e Construção SA. Joao holds a Bachelor of Law degree (JD equivalent) from FGV Direito SP (Sao Paulo, Brazil), during which time he was also a visiting international JD student at Columbia Law School, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Columbia Law School, where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. Joao won the Gold Medal in the 2022 International Insolvency Institute's Prize in International Insolvency Studies, in recognition for his article titled "Changes and Convergence of Bankruptcy Law: Recent Experience in Brazil". Joao is currently working as an international lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP (New York).
