Bio:
Javier Palacios is a Mexican attorney specialized in insolvency disputes and commercial litigation. He has been practicing law for approximately 17 years and his practice has focused primarily on disputes arising from or related to situations of insolvency. Throughout his career, he has represented companies and individuals, as creditors, debtors or parties in interest, in several insolvency proceedings in Mexico and related commercial disputes. His clients have included Mexican and foreign individuals and corporations.
In 2009, he received his law degree (J.D. equivalent) from Universidad Iberoamericana, School of Law. Since that time, he has practiced law as a civil and commercial litigator, specializing in Mexican commercial law and bankruptcy law.
Prior to establishing his own firm in 2020, he worked from 2010 to 2020 at the firm López Melih y Estrada, S.C. – as a partner beginning January 2018 – where he was part of the firm’s bankruptcy practice group, and where he worked on numerous civil and commercial cases, bankruptcies and reorganizations of Mexican companies.
Since February 2020, he is a founding partner of the law firm Palacios Cervantes Abogados, S.C., where he continues to specialize in Mexican commercial law and bankruptcy law.
He is a member of the Mexican Bar Association (Barra Mexicana Colegio de Abogados, A.C.) affiliated with the commissions on bankruptcy law and civil and commercial litigation.
He participated in Latin Lawyer’s Annual Restructuring Summits in New York City in 2017 and 2018.
He was admitted as expert on Mexican Insolvency Law by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York in 2021.
He is a member of the Iberoamerican Institute of Insolvency Law IIDC (Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Concursal).
